gljakal's WAYD
What were you working on last monday at 10am? What about three weeks ago at 4pm?
If you're anything like me, you can't answer to these questions. Heck, I can't even remember what I was doing yesterday!
"What about planning what you have to do ahead of time?" Yeah, I do that. And if the world was a perfect place, I'd always plan my next activities and follow my todo list without interruptions. The world, however is not a perfect place and interruptions and unexpected things to do never fail to come up.
Time tracking for real people
gljakal's WAYD is my solution to this problem. It's a little program that sits in the Windows tray (the little area near the Windows® clock), waiting. After a set amount of time, it will ask you: "What are you doing?", using a big window that covers your entire screen.
It literally behaves like a virtual boss that stops by your desk every once in a while to check on you. Except you don't get fired if you swear at it.
When you need to remember what you were doing on a particular date, WAYD's log viewer is just a couple of clicks away.
And if you find out that you wrote a too much generic or otherwise useless description for a particular date/time, don't worry, because WAYD also takes note of what program you are working on every 5 seconds!
"But I need to write my activities on an Excel spreadsheet!" I hear you saying. Don't worry: WAYD's log viewer can export the list of activities (or programs) you see on screen in .CSV files that can be read by Excel or OpenOffice's Calc!
Is WAYD annoying? Sometimes. Useful? Definitely! And anyway, you can always choose how often WAYD will annoy you: by default, it will ask every 30 minutes, however you can set it for different intervals, ranging from 15 minutes up to 2 hours.
WAYD can also be disabled at any time, using the tray icon menu.
